Tangerang Selatan, July 14, 2026 – The Postgraduate Program of Universitas Tarumanagara (Untar), particularly the Master of Management Program (MM), conducted a benchmarking visit to Universitas Terbuka (UT) to learn about the preparation, development, and management of distance education. The visit was part of Untar’s preparations to introduce distance education, beginning with the Master of Management and Master of Law Programs.
The visit was held in the Main Meeting Room on the second floor of the DMAUPBJ Building at Universitas Terbuka, Pondok Cabe, South Tangerang, on Tuesday (07/14/2026). The Untar delegation was led by the Rector of Untar, Prof. Dr. Amad Sudiro, S.H., M.H., M.Kn., M.M., and included university leaders, and representatives of the Postgraduate Program from Master of Management and Master of Law Programs. The delegation was welcomed by the Rector of UT, Prof. Dr. Ali Muktiyanto, S.E., M.Si., together with members of UT’s leadership. In his welcoming remarks, the Rector of UT expressed his appreciation for Untar’s visit and shared UT’s experience in developing and implementing distance education.
He explained the various preparations required to establish distance education, including curriculum design, the development of learning materials, human resource readiness, student services, quality assurance, and technological infrastructure. The infrastructure required includes a Learning Management System (LMS), digital learning platforms, academic service systems, student assessment mechanisms, and technical support that enables students to participate in learning regardless of distance and location.
UT also presented the initiatives it has undertaken in developing distance education, its current achievements, and its future development plans. These experiences provided valuable insights for the Untar Postgraduate Program as it prepares to implement distance education, particularly in the Master of Management and Master of Law Programs.
During the meeting, the Rector of UT emphasized that Universitas Terbuka does not intend to compete with private universities. Instead, UT seeks to facilitate educational needs that may not yet be fully provided by other higher education institutions, particularly for people who face limitations related to distance, time, and access to higher education. UT therefore encouraged private universities, including Untar, to develop stronger collaboration and synergy in expanding access to education. Cooperation among higher education institutions is expected to support the delivery of high-quality education to communities across Indonesia, including those in remote areas, through distance education.
The visit continued with discussions on distance education curriculum evaluation, LMS infrastructure, and student assessment methods. The speakers were Dr. Muhammad Rif’an, S.T., M.T., Director of Digital Technology; Dimas Agung Prasetyo, S.Kom., M.Sc., Head of the Learning Management Center; and Prof. Dr. Mohammad Imam Farisi, M.Pd., Head of the Quality Assurance Office.
Through this benchmarking visit, the Untar Postgraduate Program gained valuable insights into the planning, infrastructure development, learning management, and quality assurance required for distance education. The visit is expected to strengthen Untar’s readiness to introduce distance education in the Master of Management and Master of Law Programs while reinforcing collaboration with UT to expand public access to high-quality higher education.
