To Maintain Mental Health in the Workplace: MM Program at Untar Provides Tips for Building Resilience

The Master of Management Program at Universitas Tarumanagara (Untar) held a webinar themed “Mental Health: Building Resilience in the Workplace” via Zoom on Monday (24/02/2025). The event featured Dr. Rostiana, M.Si., Psikolog, a psychologist, lecturer, researcher, and consultant, as the speaker, and was moderated by Joyce Angelique Turangan, S.E., M.Pd.

In his opening remarks, the Director of the Graduate Program at Untar, Prof. Dr. Ir. Agustinus Purna Irawan, M.T., M.M., IPU., ASEAN Eng., emphasized the importance of mental health, particularly its impact on performance. “We must be able to adjust to the existing circumstances and find important breakthroughs to address mental health issues because mental health not only affects ourselves but also the people around us,” he said.

During the session, Dr. Rostiana discussed various challenges workers face in maintaining mental health in the workplace. Several risk factors that can affect mental well-being at work include excessive workload, lack of control over tasks, an unsupportive organizational culture, and the pressure caused by the imbalance between work and personal life.

To address these challenges, Dr. Rostiana stressed the importance of building resilience as a positive defense mechanism. Resilience enables individuals to cope with stress, overcome difficulties, and remain productive in high-pressure situations. Strategies to enhance resilience include building strong social connections, maintaining physical and mental balance, finding meaning in work, and adopting a positive mindset when facing change.

The event also highlighted the impact of technology on mental health. Excessive use of digital devices can lead to information overload, social isolation, and disrupted focus. Therefore, practices like mindfulness and digital detox are solutions that can help workers maintain their mental balance.

In her closing message, Dr. Rostiana said, “Let’s reduce complaints, because when we complain too much, we are defining ourselves by our failures. Smile. In doing so, we are defining ourselves based on mental health.”

The event received a positive response from participants from various backgrounds, including students, academics, and professionals from various industries. The Q&A session further enriched participants’ understanding of practical strategies for building resilience in the workplace.

The MM Program at Untar continues to be committed to offering academic programs that are relevant to industry developments and the mental well-being of the workforce.
