The Doctoral Program in Management Science at Universitas Tarumanagara (DIM Untar) held the New Student Admission event for Batch IX by inviting an international guest lecturer, Prof. Benny E. Tjahjono, B.Eng., M.Sc., Ph.D. He is a Co-leader of the Sustainable Production and Consumption Research Cluster at the Centre for Business in Society (CBiS), Coventry University, UK. The event took place on Saturday (05/23/2025).
This event marked the beginning of the academic journey for the new doctoral students. The Head of the DIM Program, Prof. Dr. Haris Maupa, S.E., M.Si., provided an orientation covering lectures, research, and academic publication. “In the first semester, lectures will be held face-to-face in an online format. During the concentration phase, students will go through a qualification exam and complete independent tasks, including writing their dissertation. In total, students will undergo five examinations, starting from the proposal eligibility test to the final open defense,” explained Prof. Haris.

Following this, the Director of the Postgraduate Program at Untar, Prof. Dr. Ir. Agustinus Purna Irawan, M.T., M.M., I.P.U., ASEAN Eng., emphasized the importance of strong motivation and high integrity throughout the doctoral journey. “Being a doctoral student is not just about finishing your studies, but also about building character and integrity during the research and publication process. Your work should contribute to the advancement of knowledge and provide real benefits to society. I hope the students uphold one of Untar’s core values—integrity—with strong enthusiasm for learning, discipline, and full commitment until the end of their studies,” stated Prof. Agustinus. He also highlighted that students are expected to graduate on time with excellent achievements, both in their dissertation research and reputable publications. “Upon graduating from DIM Untar, students should be capable of becoming independent researchers who are productive and contribute positively to society,” he added.

The event continued with a public lecture delivered by Prof. Benny E. Tjahjono on the topic “10 Tips to Turn Your Manuscript into a Successfully Published Paper.” This lecture aimed to provide practical insights into effective scientific publication strategies and to ignite academic enthusiasm from the very beginning of the doctoral journey.

Additionally, Prof. Haris gave a technical briefing on the curriculum, total credit requirements, lecture procedures, and examination stages leading up to the dissertation completion. He expressed hope that students would complete their doctoral studies with discipline and on time, aiming for graduation within three years. The event concluded with the official inauguration of the new students as members of the Untar academic community, marked by the distribution of Student ID Cards and the ceremonial presentation of the university blazer.
