The Higher Education Service Institution (LLDIKTI) Region III held a seminar titled “Socialization of Strategies for Accelerating Academic Promotion for Assistant and Associate Lecturers” on Monday (08/04/2025), at MNC University, West Jakarta. The event was officially opened by the Rector of MNC University, Dr. Dendi Pratama, S.Sn., M.M., M.Ds., who encouraged collaboration among universities in various fields. “On this occasion, we invite everyone to collaborate and partner with MNC University in many areas. We can jointly conduct research and community service programs. The business and industrial sectors under the MNC Group will provide support through MNC Peduli initiatives led directly by the Chair of our Foundation, as well as internship programs for both students and lecturers,” said Dr. Dendi.
Representing the Head of LLDIKTI Region III, Tri Munanto, S.E., M.Ak., who serves as the Head of General Affairs, highlighted the current situation and challenges related to academic promotion in the Jakarta region and surrounding areas. “Currently, there are around 27,000 lecturers in LLDIKTI Region III. However, fewer than 50 percent hold academic ranks. This is a shared responsibility for all of us—to ensure that lecturers who have not yet achieved academic positions are supported, informed, and guided so they can meet the required standards,” said Tri Munanto.
LLDIKTI Region III once again invited Prof. Dr. Ir. Agustinus Purna Irawan, M.T., M.M., IPU, ASEAN Eng., who is a Professor and Director of the Postgraduate Program at Universitas Tarumanagara (Untar), as the main speaker. In his presentation, he outlined effective strategies for junior lecturers to accelerate their academic career progression, particularly from the rank of Assistant Lecturer to Associate Lecturer.
Prof. Agustinus emphasized that, under the law, lecturers are professional educators and scholars engaged in the Tri Dharma of higher education: Teaching, Research, and Community Service. Lecturers are required to hold at least the rank of Assistant Lecturer, which is obtained through an evaluation of credit points in the areas of Teaching, Research, Community Service, and Supporting Activities. Therefore, both universities and individual lecturers must have a clear career development plan. The ability to develop and consistently implement such a plan is a strategic effort that should involve both university leadership and the lecturers themselves. A lecturer’s ability to conduct quality research and produce reputable national or international publications is a key factor in academic advancement.
“This event organized by LLDIKTI III is highly important and strategic in helping universities build the capacity of their HR departments, so they can better assist lecturers in accelerating their academic promotions. We are grateful to LLDIKTI III for the trust given to share knowledge and best practices in lecturer development and management,” said Prof. Agustinus.
Through its active participation in this event, the Untar Postgraduate Program reaffirms its commitment to contributing to the improvement of lecturer quality in Indonesia—particularly in accelerating academic promotion through practical and solution-oriented approaches. The presence of Prof. Agustinus not only represents Untar at the national level, but also reflects the institution’s role in fostering a progressive and sustainable academic ecosystem.
