The Master’s Program in Management at Universitas Tarumanagara (MM Untar) held a webinar on the topic “Business Challenges in the V.U.C.A. Era” via Zoom on Monday (06/11/2023). The event featured Indra Gunawan Masman, MBA, a Senior Executive Business Coach, as the speaker and was moderated by Mohammad Agung Saryatmo, S.T., M.M., M.T., Ph.D., a lecturer at MM and Faculty of Engineering Untar.
This event aimed to raise awareness about the business challenges in the V.U.C.A. era and adapt collaborative business systems to win the competition. During the session, Indra Gunawan Masman delivered a presentation on the concept of V.U.C.A. (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity). He explained that V.U.C.A. can have both positive and negative meanings. He then shared strategies for addressing V.U.C.A. from the perspectives of Eastern and Western philosophies.
Indra Gunawan Masman stated, “In addition to utilizing philosophy, another way to confront V.U.C.A. is through systems thinking, by viewing problems holistically and enabling companies to conduct systemic analyses. Systems thinking is more commonly used in the 21st century, where globalization and technological advancements make this method more relevant.” Furthermore, he illustrated the difference between non-systemic thinking and systemic thinking.

During the Q&A session, participants actively engaged by asking relevant questions. These questions covered topics such as the relationship between V.U.C.A. and business resilience, preparations for facing V.U.C.A., and ways to measure a country’s economic status. The interactive discussion was well-received, and the participants’ enthusiasm was high. The hope is that this event would enhance participants’ skills and knowledge, providing valuable insights for the future.
